Apoorva Sengupta

Apoorva Sengupta was an Indian army officer who rose to the rank of Lieutenant General and a cricketer who represented the Indian national side in 1 Test in 1959. He was born in 1939 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He played his debut first class match as a military cadet for Services against West Indies in 1958-59. His performance was impressive as he got 35 and 100 not out. Based on this performance and domestic cricket, he was selected to open the innings against West Indies in the same season at Madras. He scored 1 and 8 and was not selected again. That was the end of his Test career. However, he continued to play first class cricket for Services at the domestic level for ten years. He scored 146 not out against Bombay in the Ranji trophy semi final in 1959-60. He passed away in 2013 aged 74 years.
