Bal Dani

Bal Dani was an all-rounder who represented the Indian national side in one Test. He was a right-handed middle order batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler who could also bowl off and leg breaks. He played against Pakistan in 1952-53 taking one wicket but did not get a chance to bat. That remained his only Test match although he toured Pakistan in 1954-55 without playing a Test. He had a brilliant record in domestic cricket. He started his first class career with Maharashtra but moved to Services. He played domestic cricket for more than two decades scoring 6459 runs at an average of 44.54, including 17 centuries and picking up 198 wickets at an average of 21.97. In Ranji trophy, he finished with figures of 4757 runs at an average of 48.05 with 15 hundreds and 145 wickets at an average of 19.10 from 78 matches. He was the captain of Services for several years. After his retirement, he served as the national selector from 1968 to 1975. He also served as the selector, manager and coach of the Maharashtra Ranji trophy team.
