Ghulam Ahmed

Ghulam Ahmed was an Indian cricketer who represented the Indian national side in 22 Tests. He was an off spin bowler who along with Vinoo Mankad and Subhash Gupte, formed the first Indian great spin trio. He was the leading wicket taker on the tour to England in 1952 picking up 15 wickets in the four Tests. In the inaugural Test between India and Pakistan in 1952-53 at New Delhi, he captured five wickets, and scored 50 batting at number 11 adding 109 runs for the tenth wicket with Hemu Adhikari. He picked up 7 for 49 and 3 for 81 in the third Test against Australia in Calcutta in 1956-57 which is his best Test innings and match figures. He also played a major role in India’s first Test win at Madras in 1951-52. He also led India in one Test against New Zealand in 1955-56 and two Tests against West Indies in 1958-59. He represented Hyderabad in first class cricket for two decades.
