M. V. Narasimha Rao

M.V. Narasimha Rao is a former Indian cricketer who represented the Indian national team in 4 Tests between 1978 and 1979. He was a right-handed batsman and a leg break bowler. He was born in 1954 in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh. He represented Hyderabad in the domestic competition. In the last Test match of his career, he along with Yashpal Sharma played a match saving partnership to save India from the jaws of defeat against Australia at Kolkata in 1979. The initial top order collapse saw M. V. Narasimha Rao and Yashpal Sharma played a useful knock to force a draw. He served as the assistant coach of the Ireland Cricket team for the 2011 ICC World Cup. In December 2012, he became the first Indian cricketer to be honored with the Member of British Empire (MBE) medallion for his contribution for promoting the game and also for community service through cricket during the hard times faced by the ethnic community in Northern Ireland.
