Madhav Mantri

Madhav Mantri was an Indian cricketer who represented the Indian national team in four Tests between 1951 and 1955. He was a wicketkeeper and a right-handed opening batsman. He played against England in 1951-52 and also toured England in 1952 appearing in two Tests. He also played against Pakistan in one Test in 1954-55. He scored 39 against England in his first Test, putting on 75 runs for the first wicket with Pankaj Roy. His memorable match as a wicketkeeper was against England at Lord’s in 1952 when he caught three and also effected stumping. He represented Mumbai in Ranji trophy and led the side to several Ranji titles. He was the uncle of legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar.
