Mohammad Nissar was the first genuine pace bowler of India who played in 6 Tests for the Indian national cricket team. He was possibly one of the fastest bowlers India has ever produced. He formed a great pace duo along with Amar Singh. In India’s first Test at Lord’s in 1932, he finished with 5 for 93. On that tour, he claimed 71 wickets overall at an average of 18.09 to head the averages. He took another haul of 5 wickets against the MCC side in 1933-34 in the inaugural Test in India at Mumbai. His match figures of 9 for 117 helped Vizzy XI beat the visitors at Benares. It was the only win against the visitors. He made a great impact by claiming 32 wickets in the four unofficial Tests against the visiting Jack Ryder’s Australian XI in the winter of 1935. He played his last Test against England in 1936 at the Oval grabbing six wickets including a devastating spell of four wickets in five overs which reduced England from 422 for 3 to 463 for 7 even though he ended up on the losing side.
