
Nazir Ali was an early Indian cricketer who played in 2 Tests for India in the pre-independence period. He was an attacking right-handed batsman, a right-arm fast medium bowler and an excellent fielder. He played in India’s first Test match in 1932 at Lord’s scoring 13 and 6. He amassed 1020 runs and took 23 wickets overall. His most memorable performance was perhaps against Yorkshire when he scored 52 hitting five fours and three sixes out of India’s 66 all out. The other batsmen failed to score more than three in that innings. He represented the country once more in the final Test at Madras against England in 1933-34. He played first class cricket for 25 years scoring 3500 runs at an average of a little over 30 and picking up over 150 wickets. He also played for Sussex in England. He was the younger brother of Indian Test cricketer Wazir Ali. After partition, he settled in Pakistan and became an cricket administrator.
