Rusi Modi

Rusi Modi was a stroke-making Indian batsman who represented the Indian national cricket team in 10 Tests. He toured England in 1946 and performed with moderate success in all three Tests. He scored 560 runs including one century and five half-centuries in the Test series against West Indies at home in 1948-49. His 560 runs was an Indian record which was surpassed by Vijay Manjrekar in 1961-62. His 112 at Bombay was his only century in Tests. He was involved in four century partnerships with Vijay Hazare in the whole series. Thereafter, he played one Test each against England in 1951-52 and against Pakistan the following season. He played for Bombay in Ranji trophy and was the first batsman to reach 1000 runs (1008 runs) in a season in the Ranji trophy till it was surpassed by W V Raman 44 years later. His first class career spanned two decades in which he scored 7509 runs with twenty centuries.
