Shah Nyalchand was a left-arm medium pace bowler who represented the Indian national cricket team in one Test. His only Test was against Pakistan at Lucknow in 1952-53 on a matting pitch. He took 3 for 97 off 64 overs. However, Pakistan won by an innings. After that Test, he never played for India again. He had a remarkable Ranji trophy career that spanned over two decades. He started his Ranji career with Western India in 1939-40 and then went on to play for Gujarat and then captained Saurashtra. His most memorable performance was in the 1961-62 season when he took 27 wickets including a hat-trick. He was once described by the legendary West Indian cricketer Frank Worrell as the ‘king of matting wickets’.
