CONFIRMED
Miranda Lambert is getting candid about her 2015 split from Blake Shelton. Speaking on the Oct. 27, 2026 episode of Ross Golan’s “And the Writer Is…” podcast, the 42-year-old country star said the divorce “sucks for anyone,” especially in the public eye, according to Us Weekly. She also tied that tough stretch to one of the most celebrated albums of her career.
What we know
On the Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026 episode of “And the Writer Is…,” Lambert looked back on her divorce from Shelton. Us Weekly, via Yahoo Entertainment, reports she said: “I got divorced and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career, two of us.”
She summed it up simply: “It just was a really not fun time.”
There was a silver lining. Us Weekly reports, and Geo.tv’s summary of the same podcast agrees, that Lambert connected that era to her sixth studio album, “The Weight of These Wings.” She called the experience “magical” and said she grew as both a songwriter and a vocalist.
That growth paid off. According to AP, the 2016 double album, which followed the divorce, won Album of the Year at the ACM Awards.
As for the marriage itself, Us Weekly reports the pair spent about a decade together and married in Texas in 2011. Fox News reports they announced their divorce on July 20, 2015, after four years of marriage. PopCulture.com quotes their joint statement at the time: “This is not the future we envisioned.”
Coverage of the new podcast comments ran Oct. 27 and 28, 2026, with several outlets calling the remarks “rare.” That label needs a small correction. In a Nov. 1, 2019 AP interview about her album “Wildcard,” Lambert said she had gone through a divorce and had her “fire back.” So this isn’t the first time she has opened up. It is simply one of her more vivid descriptions of how hard that period felt.
What we don’t know yet
Shelton has not responded publicly to the podcast remarks in any of the coverage so far. Nothing suggests he will, and nothing suggests there is tension behind the comments either. Lambert’s tone, as reported, was reflective rather than pointed.
The coverage also doesn’t reveal any new music or projects from either star. Any talk of what comes next would be guesswork, and we’re not in the guessing business.
What it means
Where are they now? Both have built full lives since 2015. Lambert, 42 according to Us Weekly, married Brendan McLoughlin in 2019. She remains one of country’s most respected singer-songwriters, known for hits like “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which PopCulture.com highlights, along with albums including “The Weight of These Wings” and “Wildcard.”
Shelton, 50 according to Us Weekly, married Gwen Stefani in 2021. The country singer is also known to TV audiences as a former coach on “The Voice.”
The bigger takeaway is how Lambert frames the story now. She doesn’t pretend the divorce was easy, and she doesn’t dwell on blame. She describes going through a breakup while two very public careers kept rolling, and she credits that season with pushing her artistry forward.
For fans, that fits the record she made. “The Weight of These Wings” has long been read as a heartbreak album, and Lambert’s own words now back up how personal it was. The ACM win suggests the industry heard it too.
So yes, it was “a really not fun time.” By her own account, though, it was also when she grew the most as an artist. Years later, both stars are remarried and still making their mark, and Lambert seems comfortable telling the story on her own terms.
