Kumar Shanu is a famous Indian playback singer. He received Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for five consecutive years from 1990 to 1994. He did playback singing for many blockbuster movies in Bollywood including Aashiqui, Saajan, Deewana, Baazigar and 1942: A Love Story. In his career spanning three decades, he worked with numerous leading music directors of Bollywood. He had many hit duet numbers with the leading playback stars of Bollywood. Besides filmfare awards, he was awarded numerous other awards for his achievement. In 2009, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India by the government of India.

Apart from playback singing, he appeared as a judge for several television shows. He made a special appearance as an actor in the film Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) and Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015).
